Description
The Burmese-School Group from the Community Service of I.S.M mainly focuses on teaching students from the nearby Local Burmese School lessons in basic English - including techniques such as but not limited to: vocabulary, spelling, sentence structure, and reading. Our goal is to guide the students to speak English fluently, write eloquently and read comfortably. All members of the group are responsible for creating their own curriculum, approved by Ms. Kirsten Bennett, our Senior English teacher, to teach the students on every Wednesday from 3 to 4 PM. The local school has 5 primary grade levels, grades 1 to 5, with an approximate of 25 students in each class. Thereby, the members of this group are divided into 5 groups to teach each grade level, respectively. In addition to this, with the advent of the 2019-2020 school year, the Burmese School also has a branch of members dedicated solely to run fundraisers to raise funds to improve, refurbish, and expand upon the Burmese School library that was built in the previous school year.
