ISM CS - CONGRATULATIONS WE DID IT!
SAY HELLO TO THE NEW VILLAGE MIDDLE SCHOOL
Update
For those who may not know, the middle school that was previously built in Kyondamin Village in the Delta Region of Myanmar came surprisingly under budget! So we went ahead and used the left over funds + more donations local and international + proceeds from ISM’s (International School of Myanmar’s) community service La Magnifique Fashion Show to build another middle school! This Middle School, which adds 4 new classrooms to the school, was built in the Condine Village in the Delta region of Myanmar which was devastated by Cyclone Nargis in 2008. This new middle school building was completed earlier this month and while it’s still getting cleaned up, the classrooms are already in use! Children previously were only able to reach grade 5 in this village. This has now been extended up to grade 7 and plans are in place to extend their education up to grade 9. Have a look at the photos from our visit on 15 November 2015. Thank you again to everyone who has supported these school reconstruction projects!! It has been a few large donations and hundreds of smaller donations that have made a huge difference in the lives of these children. Thank you!!!
- ESME SCHOOL PROGRESS UPDATE- FEB 2012
PROGRESS UPDATE - MARCH 2012
The International School of Myanmar Community Service Team is working hard on a new village middle school project! The Kyndamin village, which is slated to get the new school, is located about 4 hours south of Yangon, Myanmar in the Aayerawadi Delta region. This middle school will be an expansion of the Esme Elementary School (click to see photos) which replaced a destroyed school when Cyclone Nargis hit the Delta Region in May, 2008. The new elementary school was built in the memory of Ms. Meghan's younger sister Esme Kenney.
The Esme Elementary School currently serves about 120 children grades 1 - 5. As it is now, only families who can afford to pay for their children's education are able to continue on to grades 6, 7, & 8. This is because the teachers for these grade levels (6th - 8th) are hired and paid for by the families of children attending the school. With this added cost, many of the children drop-out of school at the completion of 5th grade. If they do continue on to grades 6, 7, & 8, only about 35 percent will continue on to grade 9 and beyond.
With this new middle school, the village community will be able to apply for government hired and paid teachers. This will provide a free education for all children in the village up to Grade 9. As a result, the likelihood of students continuing on to graduate from high school and move on to university will increase greatly.
We currently have two construction options for the new school. One is a smaller two classroom school for $35,000 and one is for a larger 3-4 classroom school (exactly the same size as the Esme School) for $55,000. Thinking long-term, all stakeholders would prefer to reach for the larger school, the $55,000 option.
In order to raise these funds, we need your help! Any and all donations will be appreciated! Please follow the link below if you would like be a part of this exciting project, building a new middle school, and provide a free education for village children up to grade 9!
Thank you!
Our best wishes,
