Our Past

Go to the projects page and see the various things we've done all through the 2015-2016 year. It's been a big year for us, with many projects. We hosted the first every CS Fair, a fair where we invited the neighborhood kids to learn and have fun with all our groups. We also had two Operation Purifications in which we cleaned up the neighborhood for the children, and numerous orphanage and burmese school trips over the course of the year. To see all of these in detail, go to the main projects page.

WE ARE INSPIRED!

Have you ever caught the gaze of an orphan child’s eyes and felt their longing for connection?
Have you ever been there to give them that connection, a hug, a warm smile, even for a short while?
Have you ever looked into an older person’s eyes and seen that they have a story and wisdom to share with us?
Have you ever looked into the future of a Burmese School Child’s life and wondered what their story is? What their future is? What we can do to help them achieve it?

Have you ever wondered if you could change lives for the better, even in the smallest way?

Do you think it is possible that one heart at a time, you can help change a whole country for the better? Have you ever reached for a goal that was higher than what is easy and the norm? A goal of giving and wanting nothing in return? Have you ever reached so high that you landed among the stars?

The Answers to these questions are the reasons why we do what we do.

The new village middle school is completed! See video below.

The Community Service Team of the International School of Myanmar together with donors from around the world, provided funding to build an elementary school (2009) and a new middle school (2014) in the cyclone nargis devastated Delta Region of Myanmar. These schools combine to provide a free education for village children up to grade 9.

CS End of the Year Video 2014-2015

What is community service? How many ways can one serve the community? This little video shows a very of the countless ways ISM students made a difference (large & small) over the past year. There is so much more that could be added to this little video, it's just a taste!

English Summer School Program - April 2015

Local Myanmar children who attend government school are on their summer holiday from March to June. So, the ISM middle school Community Service team decided to sponsor the 4th Annual English Summer School Program. This program was held at the ISM Middle School from March 23 to April 3, 2015 from 1 - 4 pm Mon - Fri. This program benefited children ages 6 - 14 who live around ISM.

Kyondamin Village Middle School Project - September 2014

The Kyondamin Village in the Ayeyarwaddy Delta Region of Myanmar was devastated by Cyclone Nargis in May 2008. Many house and their school was destroyed in the cyclone. In response, the ISM community along with international donors have banded together to rebuild not only the elementary school, but also just completed the construction of a new middle school. The two buildings now stand side-by-side in the village and together they represent hope for a better future. Student and teachers of the village have reported an all around increased interest in learning and education as a result. Here is a recent video showing the schools and a joyful visit.
